All members and prospective members of the FPS must achieve a pass mark in each of the five sections of the independently audited Registration System and the process is repeated to encourage and measure continuous improvement.
FPS members carry out piling and geotechnical work including rotary bored, displacement, CFA, mini piling, steel sheet piling, diaphragm and bored pile walls, ground improvement, anchors, soil nails, grouting, and jet-grouting. Their competence to deliver is measured.
The Audit goes beyond ISO 9001 and verifies that systems are in place and properly adhered to on site and in offices and workshops. Non-compliance reports must be properly dealt with and plant and equipment properly maintained.
Safety is a major consideration for FPS Members and one of the most rigorous categories in the Audit. Safety and Technical Ability have the highest pass marks. FPS Members do not compete on safety. Regular meetings of the FPS Safety Forum (attended by all Members) ensure that best practice information is shared and the collection of accident data allows detailed examination of the causes of accidents and provides a sector-specific benchmark.

The ‘Working Platform Certificate’ remains a major initiative of the FPS to reduce the incidence of rigs overturning due to failure of the site surface.
FPS members have environmental policies and procedures covering all operations. Site operations in particular must comply with requirements for material handling, disposal of waste products, and plant emissions. Solutions can be offered to minimise the carbon footprint of the foundations and contribute to the sustainability of the project.
