The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) Early Careers Group (ECG) is delighted to announce an exclusive site visit to the York Central project, courtesy of Bauer Technologies. This visit is a unique opportunity for ECG members to gain first-hand insights into a major infrastructure project and the innovative piling techniques being utilised.
Bauer Technologies is supporting the main infrastructure contractor, John Sisk & Son, who is undertaking the design and build contract for the York Central infrastructure package. This extensive project includes the construction of a new road bridge and footbridge over the East Coast Main Line, 2km of single carriageway road with separate cycle and pedestrian provisions, a rail spur to the National Railway Museum, and comprehensive earthworks and utility works site wide.
Bauer Technologies is deploying a variety of advanced piling solutions to support the embankments for the new road bridge over the rail line west of York Station. These solutions include full displacement columns, full displacement piles using RTG rigs, and continuous flight auger piles. Up to three rigs will be operational on-site at peak capacity. Notably, Bauer Technologies has designed these techniques to minimise environmental impact, producing minimal to no spoil for disposal and reducing concrete waste, thereby enhancing the project’s sustainability.
The site visit is scheduled for 6th August 2024. This visit promises to be an enriching experience, providing valuable exposure to cutting-edge piling technologies and large-scale infrastructure development.
