The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) is proud to announce its participation in the upcoming GE Piling & Foundations Conference 2025 being held 22nd April, at the America Square Conference Centre.
Two distinguished FPS members will deliver a thought-provoking presentation on the critical topic of sustainable foundation design, emphasising innovation and efficiency.
Speakers:
- – Stuart Norman, Chair, FPS Sustainability Working Group
(Introduction – presenting for approximately 5 minutes) - – Dimitrios Selemetas, Chair, FPS Sustainability by Design Working Group
(Main presentation)
Presentation Title:
Sustainability by Design – Rethinking Foundations: Think More and Use Less
Abstract:
The FPS presentation will explore best practices for transitioning towards more sustainable foundation design and construction. Attendees will gain insights into achieving significant efficiencies through:
- – Design optimisation – Reducing materials without compromising structural integrity.
- – Material technology advancements – Minimising embodied carbon in foundation systems.
- – Foundation re-use – Maximising the potential for reusing foundations in future projects.
The presentation will also highlight recent FPS initiatives, including work on hybrid foundation systems, which integrate secant walls and raft foundations through performance-based design methods. Finally, it will address the development of a standardised register of project information aimed at facilitating future foundation re-use.
This presentation reflects the FPS’s ongoing commitment to driving innovation and sustainability within the piling and geotechnical sectors.
Join us at the GE Piling & Foundations Conference 2025 to hear from Stuart Norman and Dimitrios Selemetas, as they inspire the industry to rethink foundations and embrace a more sustainable future.
