FPS Sustainability Committee Meeting (July 2024) – Progress and Future Initiatives

The FPS Sustainability Committee convened on, 3rd July 2024. Key representatives from various FPS member companies were in attendance, focusing on crucial sustainability issues and advancements within the sector.

Key Discussions and Updates:

The committee is preparing a report on non-reporting companies to understand their challenges and reasons for non-compliance.

Sustainability Resources and Webinars – The Supply Chain Sustainability School’s recent webinar on Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) was well-received. Recordings and a guidance document from the webinar will be circulated with the meeting minutes.

FPS is engaging with the Sustainability Supply Chain School to discuss potential membership and collaborative opportunities.

Project-Level Emission Reporting – Matt Lamb shared the latest advancements on the FPS plug-in to the EFFC Carbon calculator, which is undergoing checks within the Sustainability Working Group before its release.

There were discussions on addressing data discrepancies across different disciplines and the need for a unified calculation method.

Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) Usage – The ongoing issue of vehicles idling on construction sites was raised, with proposals to tackle this through operational policies like “Drop the Revs.”

The committee is set to share the HVO survey results alongside the minutes.

Upcoming Engagements – The committee is gearing up for the DFI/EFFC Conference in Bruges in May 2025, with a call for papers and abstracts focusing on “Geotechnics Reimagined.”

Next Steps and Actions – All attendees were tasked with verifying the appropriate contacts within their companies, for completing the carbon return form.

Proposals for new members for the EFFC-DFI wellbeing guide subgroup are urgently needed.
